François Larocque is a full professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa, Common Law Section. He holds the Research Chair on the Canadian Francophonie in Language Rights and Issues and serves as counsel at Power Law. His academic research and legal practice focus on the protection of language rights of official language minorities. He has represented various stakeholders in litigation before the Supreme Court of Canada and provincial courts of appeal.
In collaboration with community organizations, including the FCFA, the AFO, and SAF’Île, Professor Larocque works on law reform initiatives, including, more recently, the French Language Services Acts of Ontario and Prince Edward Island, the Official Languages Act of Canada, and the Early Learning and Child Care Act of Canada. He is the author of numerous articles, books, and book chapters on language rights, including the forthcoming 4th edition of Language Rights in Canada, co-edited with Michel Bastarache and Michel Doucet.
Professor Larocque is also the creator of planctus.ca, a web application that facilitates the submission of language rights complaints to the appropriate authorities across Canada.
