Liliane Tshiama Kalonji is a Lawyer and Director of the Centre juridique pour femme de l’Ontario (CJFO), a service of Action ontarienne contre la violence faite aux femmes (Action ontarienne). She has extensive experience and a deep understanding of issues related to violence against women. In her role, she is responsible for managing the CJFO’s legal projects, providing legal information to the frontline workers and the public, offering legal advice, and handling limited-scope representation for Francophone women in Ontario who are experiencing intimate partner violence.
She has a dual legal background in common law and civil law. She has been a member of the Law Society of Ontario since January 2020. She completed her common law studies in French and earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Ottawa. She also completed her civil law studies and earned a civil law degree and a master’s degree in economic and social law from the Protestant University of Congo.
She is a member of the Association des juristes d’expression française (Ajefo) and the Official Languages Committee of the Ontario Bar Association.
In addition, before moving to Canada, she worked in the Democratic Republic of Congo as a lawyer focusing on business law and human rights law. She has also been active in the community and humanitarian sectors, working to promote women’s rights and fighting gender-based violence. She managed two major projects addressing sexual violence against women in times of peace and war. These projects were initiated by three United Nations agencies (UNFPA, UNICEF, and OHCHR), the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), and the Belgian Technical Cooperation (CTB).
Outside of work, she enjoys listening to music, watching movies, reading, traveling spending time with friends and family.
