After 17 years as a primary school teacher, Jean-François Roberge made the leap into politics during the 2014 election, running under the banner of the Coalition Avenir Québec. Elected in the district of Chambly, he became education critic, a responsibility he would keep until 2018, when he was named Minister of Education. He would serve in this portfolio for the entirety of his government’s first term.

After his re-election in October 2022, Mr. Roberge began serving as Minister for the French Language, as well as Minister responsible for Canadian Relations (a role he would occupy until 2025), Minister responsible for the Canadian Francophonie, Minister responsible for Democratic Institutions, Minister responsible for Access to Information and Protection of Privacy, and Minister responsible for Secularism. From September 5, 2024 to April 21, 2026, he also held the post of Minister of Immigration, Francization and Integration.

Committed, idealistic and pragmatic, Jean-François Roberge has always been socially active, both in politics and education. Notably, he was involved with the Fédération étudiante universitaire du Québec, the Commission de l’enseignement primaire du Conseil supérieur de l’éducation, the Association de défense des jeunes enseignants du Québec and Force Jeunesse.

A husband and father of two, Jean-François Roberge has long gravitated toward all things education. As a part-time writer, he has authored two youth novels: Francis perdu dans les méandres and Francis l’intrépide, published by Les Éditions Pierre Tisseyre. In 2016, he also published an essay on education, Et si on réinventait l’école ? (And What If We Reinvented School?), in which he details his ideas for improving Quebec’s education system. Lastly, he launched his first adventure novel, Abordages, in the fall of 2023.
