The Government of Canada is providing more than $3.3 million through Complementary funding in education to help Simon Fraser University respond to the growing demand from Francophone and Francophile students to receive their postsecondary education in French in British Columbia.

The Ontario and Québec governments launched a call for submissions under their Cooperation and Exchange Agreement with Respect to the Francophonie. Under this interprovincial agreement, Ontario and Québec, together, are investing up to $500,000 to support projects developed jointly by Francophone organizations in both provinces that will encourage the development of the Francophone culture, leverage economic opportunities, and enhance mutual understanding between Quebecers and Franco-Ontarians.

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages, highlighted the Government of Canada’s $9.5 million investment in 25 organizations in 2020­–21.

The governments of Canada and Manitoba today announced expansions at two child-care centres in francophone communities to create 100 new spaces for French-speaking families.

Legislative Secretary and Francophone Affairs Liaison from the government of Saskatchewan Todd Goudy, also member of the Ministers’ Council on the Canadian Francophonie (MCCF), has received the latest report from the Advisory Committee on Francophone Affairs.  Titled Public Health and Emergency Situations the report looks at how increased use of the French language can play a greater role in keeping people safe and healthy.

On May 20, 2021, during the Grande rencontre 2021 organized by the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec, two member ministers of the Ministers’ Council on the Canadian Francophonie (MCCF), Sonia LeBel (Quebec) and Caroline Mulroney (Ontario), joined Ontario Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, Victor Fedeli, in announcing a new award that will encourage greater interprovincial trade.
