As part of its plan to stay open, the Ontario government is investing over $10 million to build a new health care facility for the Centre de santé communautaire de Timmins (CSC Timmins). This new, dedicated site will bring together comprehensive health services under one roof to improve access to quality care for Francophone patients and families in Timmins and the surrounding area.

The Province has introduced legislative amendments to the School Act that will expand access to and improve French-language schools for francophone British Columbians, to ensure students in B.C. have access to high-quality learning environments, in both of Canada’s official languages.

The Government of Canada and the Province of Manitoba are taking steps to make Canada’s family justice system more efficient and accessible. Today, the Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and the Honourable Rochelle Squires, Minister of Families, Accessibility and Francophone Affairs of Manitoba announced over $1.6 million in funding to support the Province of Manitoba towards the implementation of the official language rights provision of the Divorce Act that came into force in Manitoba on March 1, 2021.

The legacy and traditions of the Acadians of Prince Edward Island will live forever in the pages of a new book, L’Acadie de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard : 300 ans d’histoire. This new publication is being introduced into the French curriculum across the province and is aimed primarily for school students from grade 5-12. The book was co-authored by George Arsenault and Linda Lowther and portrays 300 years of Acadian history, the evolution of the Island’s Acadian and Francophone community and its contribution to the province and the country.

The Ontario Ministry of Francophone Affairs released today its first annual report on the Francophonie. The 2022 Report on Francophone Affairs allows the Ontario government to take an overview of the state of its Francophonie.

On April 6, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, announced more than $12.6 million in funding for Collège La Cité to transform its current technology infrastructure and revise its operations as part of its new digital strategy. 

Specifically, the Government of Canada is investing nearly $10 million over three years so that Collège La Cité can undertake this important technological project, with the Government of Ontario also contributing more than $2 million over three years.

A new series of applied research projects have received funding under the Healthy Seniors Pilot Project to help foster healthy aging. About $22.6 million will be allocated to 26 different research projects aimed at understanding gender impacts as well as a number of different challenges faced by seniors in New Brunswick.

Among the projects, the New Brunswick government and the federal government are investing $300,000 to establish a study on the availability of French-language care for seniors in the Saint John area.

The Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT) Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) has released a new instructional video to help the public understand how to access French language services and how to use the active offer.  An active offer is a greeting that informs the public that they may communicate in either French or English when requesting a service from the GNWT.

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and the Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, today announced an agreement that will deliver affordable, inclusive, and high-quality child care for families in Ontario. This Canada-Ontario early learning and child care agreement is a five-year deal to reduce child care fees in the short term, deliver $10-a-day child care for Ontario families, and create 86,000 new licensed early learning and child care spaces in the province.

For the 24th edition of the Rendez-vous de la Francophonie, whose theme is “Traditions” and which takes place throughout the month of March, the ministers of the Ministers’ Council on the Canadian Francophonie are celebrating the Francophonie across Canada.

On March 20, the Quebec government presented its new Politique du Québec en matière de francophonie canadienne. The province will be actively engaged in promoting French and Francophone cultures and enhancing the value of French in Quebec and beyond with its new policy Pour une francophonie forte, unie et engagée.

The Ontario government announce the application period for the 2022-2023 edition of the Francophone Community Grants Program in support of the community organizations, social enterprises, and businesses that significantly contribute to the vitality of Ontario’s francophone community. This year, francophone organizations and businesses interested in applying have until May 11, 2022, to submit their application.

Through the extension of the Northwest Territories Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care bilateral Agreement, professional learning opportunities will provide as many as 300 early childhood educators with learning opportunities and/or training on various topics, including those specific to inclusion. Also, the extended Agreement provides enhanced post-secondary learning opportunities delivered in French, with the potential to benefit 10 Francophone early childhood educators.

The Manitoba government will provide an additional $350,000 to the Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) to permanently expand the capacity of its bachelor of education degree program to between 60 and 70 students per year. USB’s bachelor of education degree program is the only education program in Manitoba designed entirely to prepare students to teach in the public school system’s French and French immersion programs. The funding will transition the program from the temporary federal funding and will be used to permanently hire additional instructors to deliver the program.
