Today, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, announced funding of $1.2 million over two years to Université Sainte-Anne, Nova Scotia’s only Francophone university, to modernize its student information system. In addition, the Province of Nova Scotia is providing $104,573 over two years to this project. Minister Petitpas Taylor was joined by the Honourable Colton LeBlanc, Nova Scotia Minister of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie.

To better serve the Francophone community, the Ontario government is now offering the option of French language characters, such as accents (e.g., ç, è, é, ê, ë), on Ontario health cards. This is another step forward in the province’s plan to make French characters available on all Ontario government identification.

To support the construction, renovation and development of post-secondary educational spaces and increase the availability of programs that serve official-language minority communities, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister for Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, today announced $7.1 million in funding for the Fransaskois community. University of Regina’s La Cité universitaire francophone and the Collège Mathieu will both benefit from this funding.

The department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) invited Indigenous Governments, Francophone organizations, Language Board representatives and the public to provide their feedback on the proposed amendments and consolidated them into a report. Today, Marc G. Serré, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Official Languages, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, announced on her behalf, that the Government of Canada is increasing funding by an additional $943,000 over two years to help the Northwest Territories increase the opportunities for French learning. The Northwest Territories is contributing $290,000. This funding is in addition to more than $11.5 million that the Government of Canada has already provided to the Northwest Territories over four years for French minority-language education and second-language learning.

Today, Marc Serré, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Official Languages, announced an investment of nearly $5 million for a major project at Collège nordique francophone. Mr. Serré made this announcement on behalf of the Honorable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. The Government of Canada is providing more than $4.2 million over three years for this project, while the Government of the Northwest Territories is allocating $680,000 over the same period.
The Collège nordique francophone in Yellowknife is the only educational institution north of the 60th parallel that enables students to develop their language and professional skills and pursue French-language post-secondary studies.

The Manitoba government has invested more than $15 million from the Building Sustainable Communities (BSC) and the Urban and Hometown Green Team (GT) programs to support approximately 500 projects in bilingual municipalities throughout Manitoba, Municipal Relations Minister Eileen Clarke and Families Minister Rochelle Squires, minister responsible for francophone affairs, announced today.

Six non-profit organizations will receive funding to enhance services and resources in French and promote linguistic vitality of the francophone community in British Columbia. A total of $250,000 is directed at projects that will create educational material in French, foster arts and culture, strengthen economic development and tourism, promote the recruitment and retention of French-speaking child care practitioners, and support francophone women in the process of separation or divorce.

Today, the Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Tourism, Associate Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament (Edmonton Centre), on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, announced more than $13.3 million in support for an important project at the University of Alberta’s Campus Saint-Jean. The Government of Quebec is announcing $200,000 in financial assistance to support the first edition of the Rendez-vous d’affaires de la Francophonie, which will take place in Quebec City from July 4 to 6. The event will celebrate the French language as a business development tool and will mobilize the Francophonie’s business community to increase trade and investment, contribute to the creation of business links and position Quebec companies.

The Government of Canada is investing $2,605,384 in this project over three years while the Government of British Columbia is investing $2,113,260 over the same period. The project is funded under the Canada–British Columbia Agreement on Minority-Language Education and Second Official-Language Instruction (2020–2021 to 2022–2023).
