Today, November 7, 2022, the Centre de Santé Constellation Health Centre will start seeing clients. Constellation will be the first primary health care clinic of its kind in the Yukon and serve as a model of care to build upon in the future. The Centre de Santé Constellation Health Centre is a pivotal milestone towards improving access to services and communications in French in the territory. The new collaborative care clinic is a recommendation of the Putting People First report.

The Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec (FCCQ) and the Fédération des gens d’affaires francophones de l’Ontario (FGA) today announced the finalists for the 2nd edition of the Prix du commerce Ontario-Québec en francophonie. The Ontario finalists are Ferme Avicole Laviolette (Saint-Isidore) and Winston Marketing Inc. (Hawkesbury), while the Quebec finalists are AGORAlliance Cooperative (Montreal), Humance (Montreal) and Omy Laboratories (Quebec).

On September 1st, La Cité became officially recognized as a full-fledged faculty within the University of Regina enabling it to fulfill the educational needs and aspirations of Saskatchewan’s Francophones. La Cite’s new status was officially celebrated at an event on Friday, October 14, 2022. Achieving faculty status will allow La Cite to develop new academic programs in French, leading to new partnerships and a more promising future for post-secondary education in French.

Today, Marc Serré, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Official Languages, accompanied by Viviane Lapointe, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, announced more than $8 million in funding for Collège Boréal. He made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. With this funding, Collège Boréal will start work to develop new bachelor’s degrees that will address specific training and labour needs in Northern Ontario.

Today, the Advisory Committee on Francophone Affairs presented the Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs Laura Ross with two new reports detailing their on-going review and analysis of programs and policies to guide the implementation of Saskatchewan’s French-language Services Policy. The Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) now has a stream specifically for Francophone applicants. Prospective Francophone nominees can apply to the program themselves if they are currently employed by an NWT employer or live abroad but have a valid job offer from an NWT employer. The NTNP now have three streams: Employer-Driven, Business and Francophone.

Starting in November 2022, Carrefour Options+, Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon’s continuing education school, will offer the Personal Support Worker (PSW) program in Sudbury. Offered to students 18 years of age and older, this program will allow those interested in becoming a PSW to be trained in French in order to provide care to individuals and families in a variety of settings, including long-term residential institutions and community home care agencies. CSC Nouvelon is the second school board to offer this program in French in Ontario.

This September, the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba will welcome the first cohort of its Access to Justice in French (A2JF) Concentration. University of Manitoba is one of a few institutions to develop and deliver a bilingual Common Law legal education.

Today, Marc G. Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Official Languages, announced that l’Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario (AFO) will receive $24,900 to evaluate the demand and educational needs of Francophones in the region to help the University of Sudbury enhance its programming. The Fédération des femmes acadiennes de la Nouvelle-Écosse (FFANE) is pleased to announce the launch of the Guide de la personne aidante. This guide is the first francophone edition of such a resource adapted for francophone caregivers in Nova Scotia since 2007.

The provincial government and the Nurses Association of New Brunswick announced that seats have been confirmed for New Brunswick graduate nurses who wish to write the Quebec nursing entry exam. Upon successful completion of the Quebec entry exam, graduate nurses would be required to complete their registration process in New Brunswick through a new simplified process.

The Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, announced an investment of more than $12.6 million over three years to provide nearly 2,000 jobs and internships for young people as part of Young Canada Works in Both Official Languages. Specifically, these young people, aged 16 to 30, will be able to apply their studies and knowledge, have enriching experiences, discover different regions of the country and perfect their second language thanks to work placements.

Alberta’s government is providing school authorities additional funding to support higher salaries for teachers, address enrolment growth and support francophone education. About $5 million in additional funding will be provided to francophone school boards through an updated francophone equivalency grant. This increased investment means that in the 2022/23 school year, Alberta Education will allocate $7 million to francophone school authorities to support francophone education in Alberta.
