Today, the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Marie-France Lalonde, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister, and Marc G. Serré, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Official Languages, were at École secondaire catholique Franco-Cité in Sturgeon Falls to announce that Canada has achieved its target of 4.4% of French-speaking immigrants outside Quebec in 2022.

Today, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, announced support of more than $2.7 million for Foyer Richelieu Welland in Ontario to build a new community and cultural centre. This new Government of Canada investment will allow for the construction and development of a community and cultural centre that can accommodate at least 500 people each day. This centre will be designed to encourage gatherings and will improve services to Francophones.

Today, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, announced nearly $100,000 in funding for the Centre francophone de Toronto to carry out a feasibility study. The governments of Canada and Manitoba are investing $2.8 million in 143 grants to support French-language programming in Manitoba schools, Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Wayne Ewasko and Families Minister Rochelle Squires, minister responsible for francophone affairs, announced today.

Results from the third annual Francophone Community Satisfaction Survey have been released. The data covers an 11-month period, from April 1, 2021 to February 28, 2022 and includes feedback from 109 respondents. The request for voluntary feedback was to help improve the GNWT’s offer and delivery of quality French language communications and services to the public.

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development of New Brunswick has released the proposed Innovative Immersion Program for students entering kindergarten and Grade 1 in the 2023-24 school year. The department will seek feedback on the framework during consultations this winter.

The government of New Brunswick will create a Secretariat of Official Languages to promote and strengthen services for both linguistic communities in response to the 2021 review of the Official Languages Act. The secretariat will begin official operations in April 2023 within the Department of Intergovernmental Affairs.

The Ontario government is providing over $4.7 million to Contact North | Contact Nord, giving learners in underserved communities flexible access to innovative virtual learning and training opportunities. This investment supports 13 online learning centres equipped with Extended Reality (XR) technology, and a laptop and internet loaner program.

The Honourable Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation and Minister of Francophone Affairs in Ontario, issued a statement for the anniversary of the modernization of the French Language Services Act. The province has created a new active offer regulation under the Act. The O. Reg 544/22 Active Offer of Services in French — Prescribed Measures sets out the specific actions that must be taken to fulfill the active offer obligation and gives Ontario one of the most developed frameworks surrounding the provision of active offer in government services.

The Government of British Columbia has provided the Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique (CSF) with $6.9 million to build a new gymnasium for École élémentaire des Deux-rives. The former gym will be repurposed into additional learning areas, including a media and technology room and multi-purpose space.
