Symposium on Francophone Immigration
On March 22, 2018, the Ministerial Conference on the Canadian Francophonie (MCCF) organized a Symposium on Francophone Immigration, in result of a commitment among ministers responsible for immigration and ministers responsible for the Canadian Francophonie during the first Forum on Francophone Immigration, held in Moncton in 2017.
The Federal/Provincial/Territorial (FPT) Action Plan for Increasing Francophone Immigration outside Québec (the Action Plan) sets out a plan that governments can implement, in collaboration with stakeholders, to improve the promotion, selection, settlement, integration and retention of French-speaking immigrants to Francophone minority communities (FMCs). When announcing the Action Plan on March 2,2018, ministers responsible for immigration and their counterpart Canadian Francophonie ministers discussed ideas on how to encourage and promote Francophone immigration to Francophone minority communities in Canada.
The Symposium on Francophone Immigration, held in Calgary, Alberta on March 22, 2018, and organized by the Ministerial Conference on the Canadian Francophonie (MCCF), was intended to be a catalyst to promote collaboration between FPT governments and FMCs to achieve common goals with respect to Francophone immigration. The Symposium was an opportunity to begin a sustainable dialogue among stakeholders, particularly community representatives and senior immigration and Francophonie officials, to encourage the alignment of their actions in response to the needs of French-speaking newcomers and FMCs.
