The Honourable Margaret Nakashuk

Minister of Culture and Heritage
Minister responsible for the Nunavut Housing Corporation

Margaret Nakashuk was elected to the 5 th Legislative Assembly of Nunavut on October 30, 2017 to represent the constituency of Pangnirtung. She began her political career in 2000 when she was elected to the Pangnirtung District Education Authority and continued with her election to the Municipal Council of Pangnirtung.

Ms. Nakashuk employment experience spans 25 years with the Government of the Northwest Territories and the Government of Nunavut (GN), most recently serving as a senior official with Department of Family Services. Her previous professional experience also includes positions as an adult educator, a community health representative, a career development officer, and a long-term tourism manager. She is also a former Justice of the Peace.

After graduating Atagoyuk high school in Pangnirtung, Ms. Nakashuk’s educational activities include the Nunavut Sivuniksavut Program, Management Studies at Nunavut Arctic College, a GN supervisory diploma for career development, and the GN’s Hivuliqtikhanut Leadership Program.

Her volunteer activities include work with Elders and youth. Ms. Nakashuk’s personal interests include knitting, sewing, baking, and travelling. Margaret and her spouse Andrew Nakashuk have two children, Natasha, and Anthony, and one grandson, Felix.

Ms. Nakashuk was elected to serve as a cabinet minister on October 30, 2020. On November 6, 2020, she was named Minister of Culture and Heritage and Minister responsible for the Nunavut Housing Corporation.
